BUILDING DETAILS > INTRODUCTION:
Total Kit Homes have been operating in Tasmania for over thirty years, and in Victoria for over twenty years.
During this time we have won awards for Telecom & Tasmanian Government Small Business of the Year, H.I.A Top Homes and the James Hardie Award for Best Kit Design.
We use an innovative and unique method of construction, which sets us apart from our competitors. You will love our use of exposed timbers and the dramatic effects of our cathedral style ceilings. Internally you have the choice of plaster walls or pine lining, alone or blended together.
Total Kit Homes supply two types of kit: the complete kit, which includes bearers, joists etc., and the choice of pine floor boards or Trudeck sheeting; and the reduced kit, which is supplied minus all the floor timbers, and is ready to go onto your concrete slab.
A Total Kit Home is constructed entirely with materials either produced or assembled in Tasmania, while in Victoria the pine timber component is still supplied from Tasmania.
Total Kit Homes use either a post and beam method of construction – which is bolted together, with the external cladding and windows secured to the frame – or a standard stud frame.
This method enables a much faster construction period. We supply the kit together with an extensive manual, which enables almost anyone to build their home themselves.
All interior walls and linings are included in our kit prices.
Your personal satisfaction is important to us at Total Kit Homes. Come in and discuss your ideas with our friendly staff—we are sure we can come up with a design to suit your requirements. All of our available plans may be altered to suit your needs.
We even do “Own Designs” into kit form, calculating an individual cost estimate for you. Our design service, plans and specifications are all free of charge when you buy a Total Kit Home.
We take into account landscape features, historical criteria, environmental concerns and client requests when any design is being developed or modified. We believe that change, flexibility and new ideas are vital to exist as a force in our field.
Designs can be selected from our catalogue, modified, or we can convert your design into kit form. Our design service, plans and specifications are all free of charge when you decide to buy from Total Kit Homes. As most of the walls are non-load bearing, they may be positioned to make the available space work best for your requirements.
We are happy to offer advice on design, and can provide free no obligation costings on your home.
Total Kit Homes provides a wide choice of quality external cladding materials, corrugated iron, bricks, timber and more.
Choose from our large range of blocks and bricks available.
We can also supply the latest in claddings available. Choose from treated weatherboards for that back to nature look. Painted or stained they look fantastic, creating endless possibilities. We also supply fibre cement weatherboards, in various profiles and textures. These give you the look of timber, yet are virtually maintenance free.
You can paint them in a range of UV protected exterior colours or stain them in attractive finishes such as Teak, Black Oak, Walnut or Cedar. Western Red Cedar weatherboards are available too. Finally we have D-shaped logs (subject to availability) for that country living style. This is our own concept, authentic log cabins are made possible by our ingenious method of construction, eliminating waste and providing a cladding that is long lasting and maintenance free.
Quality aluminium windows and sliding doors, come in a large variety of styles, sizes and colours enabling you to create a colour theme throughout your home. These standard window colours are complemented by the Colorbond range of roofing, guttering and flashing.
The roofing material comes in various profiles from the traditional corrugated form, to the latest square and fluted designs. You can either make a statement or blend into your surroundings with a Colorbond roof. Colorbond steel is not only strong, it won’t flake, peel or blister either, which means little or no main-tenance for the life time of the roof, ensuring your house will look as good as it did from the day it was built to well into the future.
Wonderful timber interiors make Total Kit Homes come alive, from the beautiful exposed beams and rafters to the exposed timber flooring.
The natural beauty continues with the choice of pine lined walls and timber staircases, with the added benefit of being virtually maintenance free. The grand sloping ceilings add to the feeling of spaciousness in even our smaller designs. Naturally all our homes are provided with insulation over the ceilings.
Carrying on the feeling of space are the various decks and verandahs which can be added to the kits, expanding your home into the out-doors. All internal doors, hinges, door furniture and architraves are supplied in our kits—just the sort of finishing touches customers appreciate.
All internal stair material is supplied with our kits as well, all specifically designed for each individual job.
